Many languages are spoken in Ethiopian and of the most common is Amharic. I speak a little of that but my mother tongue is Tigringa, the language of the Tigray region in Northern Ethiopian. My family is from Mek'ele which is the capital of this region. We speak mainly Tigringa at home. We also listen to lots of music from Ethiopia, both Amharic and Tigringa!
The first song I am showing is Gual Hagerebseb. It's a Tigringa song and my favorite.
Here is some traditional Tigringa music. You can see some interesting instruments here and you'll see some of the pretty costumes that the Tigray people wear.
This is some children doing the Tigringa Kuda dance.
Next, I'll show you some Amharic music. This song is my favorite Amharic song.
And because its too cute not to share, here are some adorable Ethiopian dancing to a song I found while looking for videos to show you.
Thank you for watching! Are you or your family from a different country or culture? Do you like to listen to music from that culture? Share in the comments below!
